In Houston the artists run spaces add critical perspective to the local ecology and enrich the soil in which artists grow, creating new critical feedback loops that affect galleries, large institutions, and the public as a whole. The book entitled Satellites and Socialists: On the Fringe of the Houston Arts includes a series of essays, interviews, mission statements, floorplans, and more which document a very vital selection of these exceptional spaces and entities. Also covered in the book are a few artist-run and/or inimitable institutions, which are unlike any others in the United States and are right here in Houston. – Sasha Dela
